Tech and Ed

 Continued Journey

Hello, If you have been keeping up with my blog you may remember that for my Technology in Education class I had to get Twitter.  At first I was very skeptical of the idea of having Twitter--for school? However after using in for a few days I grew to really enjoy it and love it. I engaged in chats and conversions with my peers and other educators on important topics and ideas. I participated in chats and polls. And most of all I learned a lot along the way.

Now I am not following 464 people and have 144 followers. I have many teacher friends online that engage in my posts and questions and that I engage with back. I also have been a big part of the #Whatisschool twitter chat the last few weeks in March and a little in April. I love being on these chats because I have learned so much about what a good teacher does, but also get to way in on talking about important issues.

PLN  Conversions

In my last blog about Twitter, I mentioned a lot about being a part of the educator community or having PLN a Personal Learning Network The educator community on twitter is a special place, because it is for; teachers, principals, future teachers and anyone who works or is involved at a school around the world. Being a part of Teacher Twitter has been a lot of fun and learning for me. Teachers will post lesson plans, their favorite tech tools or questions. My favorite is when other teachers or classmates post questions and we can engage in conversations about them. This is cool because you can hear details and different views for other teachers around the world and learn from each other. This was all a great way to talk to some of the wonderful people in my tech and ed class, which is online. I liked talking to them about their professional options on issues and strategies, because I got to know them more and learn from them all at once.

These can be this like:

  • State Testing during Covid. Is it right?

  • Zoom detention is that fair?

  •  Snow days should they continue?

  • How to test a kid's knowledge?

  • What did you learn this semester?

  • And of course what content is best to teach.

PLN Supports

Another great part of being on Teacher twitter is that there is so much positivity. I know teaching can be a hard job at times. My mom is a teacher and has bad days but she also has really good ones too. That is all jobs and life. Teachers on Twitter can help each other with ideas and finding resources. They also help each other with education strategies and coping with the job.

PLN  Gives

In addition to Teacher Twitter helping each other emotionally, they help each other be better teachers with lessons. The whole point of PLN is learning from other teachers and their experiences. Like I said above, teachers will post questions about lessons, students and tech for others to help them will. In addition to that the chats help them give and get free advice online about teaching. Also many teachers get lesson plan ideas from online or inspired by other ideas. I know I have for some of my classes like worksheets from www.wearetechers.com. These ideas for lessons help teachers have more interesting lessons and plans which in the end help everyone learn more. I definitely have gotten inspired by ideas online and other people's cool lessons.

Like Mrs. Flowers’ Class @FlowersClass1st always has fun ideas for her students, which has me thinking about ideas for my future students.

PLN  and  Tech

We can’t talk about Teacher Twitter without talking about technology resources for the classroom or #edtech.  Ed tech is always in conversion on Teacher Twitter. Teachers are constantly sharing resources and tools they use in their classrooms. In addition to resources teachers share tips and tricks to using them as well as how-to's. This is amazing because teachers can learn about new ways to innovate their lessons and engage their students in new ways. The same old worksheets and slides can get really boring for teachers and their students. Teacher Twitter helps get online resources out there and helps teachers use them effectively. I have found so many resources to use for online learning and off on twitter from just scrolling through my feed. Not only have I found resources I have talked to other people about using them. This was great because I not only learned that real teachers use these tech tools, but how and for what activities. Which inspires me to use them for my future classroom.

Like Julia’s #STEAMing up Jamboards @GiftedTawk amazing lessons on Jamboards.

Or me learning about www.Slidesgo.com for helping with power points.

Some great resources for lessons and classroom management I found on Twitter:

These were just a few of my newer favorites, the well known ones I am working making a list for teachers and future teachers here.

Overall

I have been learning and talking a lot about really great Education tools and ideas with twitter teachers around the world. I have really enjoyed this experience and it has inspired me to look other places beyond Twitter for education ideas. Like sharing Teacher Tok’s (Teacher Tik Toks) with my Ed major friends and starting Pinterest boards for my future classroom too.

I have learned a lot and will continue to use this resource to grow as a teacher in the future.

Thank you,
